Happy Day and a Giveway!

I'm happy today, for a couple of reasons:
#1 - I'm finally starting to feel better after an icky bout of the flu. Yuck! Thanks to my sweet husband who actually let me call in sick to Mommyhood. He stayed home from work and let me stay in bed all day. Yeah, he's a keeper.

#2 - After finally being able to eat something without yacking, I tried this great Fiber One yogurt (courtesy of Fiber One, Safeway, and MyBlogSpark). It definitely made my mouth smile. Mmmm, Vanilla yogurt. Seriously. I'm a sucker for vanilla yogurt. Yes, I'm a plain Jane. Check it out. The super happy part is that there are only 50 calories in each serving...and 5 grams of fiber. Guilt-free! It's still on sale at Safeway until Tuesday, February 9th - Two 4-packs for $4.00. Go here to get a coupon for even more savings. Great deal!
#3 - I get to giveaway a $50 gift card to Safeway, thanks to Safeway, Fiber One and MyBlogSpark. 50 smackaroos! This gift card can be used at Safeway, Vons, Pavilions, Genuardi's, Dominick's, Carrs, Randalls and Tom Thumb.

So, how can you win? Just leave a comment giving me a healthy tip that has worked for you. I need all the help I can get! Easy peasy! You have until Thursday, February 11th at 11:59pm to enter. I'll pick a name using the random number generator at random.org and post it first thing Friday morning. Good luck and feel free to share this info with your friends!

Hey Christie -- My healthy tip is that I only drink water when I am trying to lose weight, and I do a lot of walking. It is hard not to drink anything else but it did help with me to lose 15 pounds. :)

JECKBECK (Erin)

I have found that small, frequent snacks help to curb the big cravings. Between meals I would have a cheese stick, carrot sticks, a handful of almonds. I also chew gum because it makes me not put random stuff in my mouth.

As I write this I realize I need to be taking my own advice...

Julie

Lately I love eating frozen blueberries. They taste sweet like candy. This helps me with my sugar cravings.

Katie

When the flu runs through our house, we break out the honey. It works so much better than cough syrup and tastes better too!

Abigail

My advice I guess would be to stay active and that is pretty easy when you have three kids. Not only does it help to lose weight and is heart healthy there is also an emotional well being. Sometimes when I wake up and the last thing I feel like doing is working out I force myself to do it and I am more patient more loving and kind and have a much better attitude so my advice is to stay active.

Maren

Hey - I'm glad your feeling better. My tip is to get a friend to work out with. You feel more accountable and less likely to get out of it.

Jules

Glad you are feeling better and that you got a mommy sick day. I have dreamed of one of those. My health tips are 1) Don't eat after 7 pm 2) If you are wanting to snack drinking a full glass of water first, it helps you eat less.

Angela

I am glad you are getting better. My tip is a little different. I just made my own deoderant! It is made out coconut oil, baking soda and cornstarch! It is a great way to keep those unwanted chemicals and toxins out of our body! It costs a lot less too! I think it works great too! Let me if you want the recipe. :)

Hi Christie, (I am Marens sis in law)
My healthy tips are: No carbs after 2:00pm, eat a lean meat and veggies for dinner, try to get a walk in before the kids get up it will help you feel energized to get through the day.

Mique (as in Mickey)

Hi- came over from Secret Stitch Club.
My tip is to not eat past 7pm- it's hard at first but you get used to it. ;) $50 to Safeway (Von's for me) is awesome! Thanks.

Hi, my tip is to eat only whole grains, and I don't mean the ones on the cereal boxes. Grind your own wheat, eat regular not quick oats, quinoa, kamut, spelt, brown rice. Cut out the white flour, all refined sugar, and snack food. Good luck!

Hi, I came over from the Secret Stitch Club, too. My healthy tip is to eat a breakfast that will keep me from feeling hungry until lunch time. I eat 1/2 cup of oatmeal with about 1 teaspoon of flax seeds. I find that if I cook the flax seeds while I'm cooking the oatmeal (regular quaker oats just cooked by pouring hot water on them), they are easier to chew with the oatmeal. My other tips are not to snack, I try to only eat every four hours, and I drink only water. I splurge every now and then by having a light beer or a glass of wine, but no more than twice a week.

You are so cool Christie! What a fun giveaway. So I'll tell you what helps me...LOTS of fiber. I eat All-Bran for breakfast every morning. 1/3 of a cup has 51% of your daily fiber!! It has done wonders for my bowels. (probably more info than you wanted to know!)

Barbie

It's all about portion control. We (humans in general) eat way too much food.

Healthy Tip from a not so healthy person: Don't eat after 9:00. I notice a huge difference in how I sleep and my weight when I am diligent with this. Okay, now I am going to send some offerings up to the giveaway gods. I'm glad you are feeling better, I've missed you!

What worked best for me was portion control. That way I didn't have to feel like I couldn't have certain things, I just ate half of what I normally would have. And drink lots of water and hardly any soda (and then only if it's diet, of course)

My healthy tip is mental moments. I take a few minutes to myself every morning to make a list and plan my day. Even if things don't play out the way I planned, I feel like I set myself up for a productive day - which in turn makes me feel good.

I'm so glad you are feeling better now! My health tip actually goes along with losing weight as well as keeping from getting the cold... so a tip for multiple uses :-) Soup! Soups help you from getting the cold and help lose weight. There's more fluid, which our bodies need both in staying healthy and in losing weight. Soups are warm and easy on the body to digest and are usually (depending on the type) a good serving of veggies... bring on the soup!

Healthy tip: Park near the back of the parking lot to get a healthy walk while running errands.

Chelsea

Hey Christie,
My healthy tip is I eat fruit (like berries, bananas, kiwis, or whatever is your favorite) or a smoothy with yogurt, milk (opt) and fruit when I have a craving for something sweet. It takes care of the sweet tooth while providing nutrition.

MaddyMazeStudio

I add quuinoa to most of my savory grain dishes and salads. It adds a nutty flavor and has protein (which I need lots of). I ahve lost 130 pounds through gastric bypass and am doing great. I need to add bits of protein throughout my day whenever I can.

Thanks for letting me enter!

When you are hungry, drink a big glass of water, wait 15 minutes, then decide if you really are hungry! Works like a charm!

Jenna

Another healthy tip is to shop mainly the perimeter of the grocery store. Usually this is where the raw and natural foods are located :)

Anne

my healthy tip is to get the proper rest your body needs, & drink plenty of water!

Eating a broth based soup with a meal or as a meal helps you eat less of the other stuff.

hey, jode

Crack the windows open a little for fresh air. That always helps, in my opinion.

What a great idea. I don't know if I can help much because I'm still trying to figure it out : ). I enjoy getting out of the house and either going walking around the neighborhood or to the track. It's free and I feel tons better when I'm done. Also i've been making sure I drink lots of water instead of anything else. : ) (oh ya and I'm a plain girl to. My favorite is VANILLA ) YUM I'll have to try it. I like guilt free stuff.

Mom2BJM(Amy)

Eat filling foods! That is my tip - then you don't have to waste calories on junk! (can anyone tell I'm a Weight Watchers follower? ) Lost 60+ lbs , so it worked for me!

And I'd love $50 since Safeway is just around the corner!

Eat breakfast like a King, lunch like a Prince, and dinner like a pauper. This has helped me lose 40 pounds over the past year.

Casey

I'm the last person to give healthy tips, because I stink at them. Drink Diet Pepsi? Just kidding. Play outside with your kids. I try and walk around with Maddie and then have races around on the grass, pick them up and twirl them around, do a few bench presses, you get the idea.

Laressa

Hi! I am another who came over from the Secret Stitch Club. I have found it easiest for me to slow down or reverse any unwanted "growth" by taking small steps that don't seem overwhelming, usually cutting (down) sodas and dessert in the evening! Thanks for the opportunity with the safeway card!

Jennai

My healthy tip is to exercise, even if it's only to walk around the block. Keep moving!

When I have a sweet craving I try to eat an apple or some kind of fruit. It satisfies the sweet tooth and so much better than eating the junk food I was craving.

Cynthia

Awesome giveaway! I've tried weight watchers and it really works as longs as you stick with it haha but I realized that going for healthier options doesn't always mean less food or yucky food. Also no soda! I need to stop drinking soda & start drinking more water. I noticed I felt more energized when I cut out soda.

Something interesting I learned this week to get your "healthy" thoughts flowing. 100 Caolries of Broccoli has more protein than 100 Calories of Beef! So eat those veggies! You won't be losing out on protein!
